WINTER CLASS SCHEDULE

COLOUR WORK MITTENS ~ Tuesdays 5:30 - 7:00 January 17 - 31, 2012 ~~~$ 58

Learn the stranded colour work technique by making a great pair of Norwegian style mittens! Using Ottawa"s own Heather Desserud's Ruba'iyat Mittens, you will learn how to read a chart,make a thumb gusset, and do stranded colour work in the round. The pattern will be provided.

Skills needed:
~ Knit stitch, purl stitch, increasing, decreasing
~ Knitting in the round (DPNs, magic loop or two circulars)
Materials needed (may be purchased during the first class):
~ 2.75mm needles
~ 2 colours of Sport weight yarn (approx. 250 yds of each colour)
Pease note that knitting outside of class will be required

FINISHING TECHNIQUES ~ 10:30am - 2:30pm Saturday February 4th, 2012 ~~~ $ 48

We all have unfinished projects which are just waiting for seaming or picking up stitches. In this class you will learn to sew two pieces together using the mattress stitch, how to pick up stitches, weave in ends and the Kitchener stitch. Feel free to bring in your UFO (unfinished object).

Class supplies (may be purchased during the first class):
~ Darning needles
~ Knitting needles
~ Yarn (preferably two different colours of similar weight)
Homework (required prior to first class):
~ Knitted swatches:
~~~ 2 stocking stitch pieces of 10 stitches wide, 30 rows long and cast off;
~~~ 2 stocking stitch pieces of 30 stitches wide and 10 rows long, left on needles or waste yarn.

 

Sunnyside Baby Cardigan Class ~ Wednesdays 5:30 - 7:00pm February 15 to March 7th ~~ $ 74

Need to make a baby sweater? Make one with us. The Sunnyside baby cardigan by Tanis Lavallee is a top-down, one piece cardigan with option for lace or cables.A great way to use hand painted sock yarn! This is a perfect pattern for a first sweater project. The pattern will be provided for you.

Skills needed:
~ Knit stitch
~ Purl stitch
Supplies needed (may be purchased during the first class):
~ 3.5mm 24" circular knitting needles
~ 3.5mm double pointed knitting needles
~ 300 to 600 yards of fngering weight yarn (this pattern is available in 4 sizes).
Please note that knitting outside of class will be required.

BEGINNER KNITTING ~ Saturdays 10:30am -12:00pm February 25th and March 3rd ~~~ $ 48

Learn how to knit by making slippers! This fun and easy pattern will teach you how to cast on, knit, purl, decrease and cast off. The cost of the class includes the materials to make your first project! You will also learn to read and decipher a knitting pattern.

CROCHET LACE CLASS ~ Wednesdays 5:30 - 7pm March 27th - April 17th ~~~$ 74

This project-based class will take your crochet skills to new heights. By crocheting the Elise Shawl by Evan Plevinski you will learn how to use simple crochet stitches to create a beautiful shawl. Pattern will be provided.

Skills needed:
~ Basic crochet stitches (ch, sc, dc, tr)
Supplies needed (may be purchased during the first class):
~ 400 yds of fingering weight yarn
~ 5.5 mm crochet hook

CROCHET FOR KNITTERS ~ Saturday April 28th, 2012, 10:00am - 1:00pm ~~~ $ 36

Every knitter should know a few crochet basics! In this seminar, you will learn to chain stitch, how to do a provisional cast-on, seam using crochet, cast off using the crochet method and how to add a crochet edge to your project.

Supplies needed (can be purchased during the class):
~ Worsted weight yarn
~ Crochet hook (size 4mm - 5.5mm)
~ Set of knitting needles in the same size as your crochet hook
Homework (required prior to first class):
~ Knitted swatches:
~~~ 2 stocking stitch pieces of 10 stitches wide, 30 rows long and cast off;
~~~ 2 stocking stitch pieces of 30 stitches wide and 10 rows long, left on needles or waste yarn.

If the class times don't correspond with your schedule, just call to book any particular one-on-one lesson based on your needs: beginner; refresher; specific (ie: sock lesson); finishing techniques, etc.

We are also available for Spinning lessons (on the wheels and with drop spindles), carding techniques, etc.
